Company`s Business History
The year 1985 was the beginning of "Perestroika". It was allowed to create supportive production under kolkhozes. In the kolkhoz "Didysis spalis" in Kairiai village of the suburbs of Siauliai City, in a garage of a private house, we equipped a workshop and started production of cattle marking numbers. The demand was very high.
In 1987, it was permitted to establish cooperatives under companies. We received Statutes from Moscow, translated them into Lithuanian, and fleshed out to match our own production. Then, in Siauliai Executive Committee, we registered a co-operative No. 1 producing commonly-used commodities under Siauliai Machine-tool Plant. So, there emerged a private enterprise, which was entitled to have its stamp, open its own bank account, able to hire employees and pay them salaries, and purchase equipment. The production took place in the same place in Kairiai village, and we received orders from all over Lithuania. Such business freedom may be only perceived by the people, who lived under the conditions of socialism.
In 1988, we purchased equipment using our cumulated capital, recruited more employees and started production of automotive spare parts. The market expanded throughout the former Soviet Union, the demand and production increased by tens of times. We earned our first million.
In 1990, the Co-operative No. 1 was restructured into a public limited liability company "Skorpionas" pursuant to the law of the Republic of Lithuania. The name of the company was a zodiac sign of the co-operative founder. It was easier to manage the public limited liability company and organisation of production became more clear and simpler.
In 1991, there arose a great problem, where to invest the earned capital. We took a decision to build a metal processing plant. We chose a land plot for the plant, but an adopted law on privatisation of companies changed our plans.
In 1992, privatisation of Siauliai Machine-tool Plant was declared. Together with Mr. Karl Rotenberg, a German industrialist and Honorary Consul in Lithuania, we took a decision to purchase Siauliai Machine-tool Plant by the company "Skorpionas", and Mr. Karl Rotenberg had to become our business partner. Siauliai Machine-tool Plant was producing high accuracy precision lathe machines for aviation, electronics, watches and other industries. The privatisation was difficult, complicated and long. The collapsed Union also disrupted the existing industrial area, as well as machine-tool industry of Lithuania. Mr. Karl Rotenberg abandoned his decision to be our business partner, because of suffered huge financial losses in the former East Germany. The company "Skorpionas" inurred great financial losses and returned to the previous production of spare parts and other various equipment.
In 1994, the public limited liability company "Skorpionas" was re-registered as a private limited liability company "Skorpionas".
In 1998, through mediation of the Swedish PARS group of companies, we started filling orders for the company Volvo; this lasted until the crisis of 2008.
In 2009, in the search for our own niche, we started the analysis of titanium metal manufacturing technologies and the global titanium market. We entered into relations with Russian and Ukrainian titanium metal manufacturers and technology developers.
In 2012, we took a decision to build a plant with implementation of the state-of-the-art technologies of titanium fusion and processing.
